One of the most popular shows on the Bulgarian theater scene in the recent five years 'Rhythm' is a unique combination of percussions, movements and visual comedy. It is a result of the collaboration between its author Andrey Batashoff (famous Bulgarian actor and director), Ivan Lechev (composer) and Mila Iskrenova (choreographer). The World Café, Friday evening

COME AND ENJOY A GOOD COFFEE AND EXPLORE OUR WORLD TOGETHER!

In our Culture Cafe we could explore what is it that ignites our passion in this field and how might our cross-cultural experience and expertise really bring benefit to society.

Read about World Café principles.

As a conversational process, the World Café is an innovative yet simple methodology for hosting conversations about questions that matter. These conversations link and build on each other as people move between groups, cross-pollinate ideas, and discover new insights into the questions or issues that are most important in their life, work, or community. As a process, the World Café can evoke and make visible the collective intelligence of any group, thus increasing people’s capacity for effective action in pursuit of common aims.

Denis MorbinSome words about our Host - Dennis Morbin. The intercultural nature of business in the globalized world requires a sound understanding of diverse cultural environments in which people work – not just in order to overcome culture shock but also to develop their 'cultural intelligence‘. Having taught language and intercultural understanding for several decades and having lived in Asia, North America and Europe, Dennis has personally gained insights into how best to manage cultural diversity in the business sector and communicate it effectively within the academic environment. Over the past 10 years, he has designed, developed and taught a broad range management training seminars including "Doing Business in Different Cultures“ for various multinational companies in the Czech and Slovak Republics. He also has had the pleasure of working with the founders of World Cafe, Juanita Brown and David Issacs, and most recently led a Cafe for a not-for-profit group in Colgone, Germany. Dennis is a founding member and country representative of CFAN (Change Facilitators Associates Network)- a global network of trainers and consultants working in all aspects of change management.

It is a town built upon layers of towns and a culture developed upon layers of cultures.

Plovdiv’s historical quarter includes houses from the National Revival period (18-19th century) and an imposing open-air museum situated on the three hills of the ancient Trimontium. One of the most remarkable sights of the town, the Ancient Roman Theater, is still used for performances.

Culture and history

Dobarsko village is situated 180 km southwest from the capital city of Sofia. It has vivid and well preserved folklore, cultural traditions and rituals from the ancient times, which the local community is happy to share with Bulgarians and foreigners. You'll become part of the rituals and celebrations of a Bulgarian wedding just as it was done centuries ago.

Dobarsko is a mountain village - 1070 m. above the sea level. It is nestled in the southern foot of the holy Rila Mountains and overlooks the endless horizons of Pirin, the pearl of Bulgarian mountains and the wide Rodopi mountains.

The village of Dobarsko has been restored and is the location for the church of St. Teodor Tiron i Teodor Stratilat 1614, a national monument of culture. The three-level 17th Century church is half dug into the ground because the builders didn’t want to attract Ottoman authorities’ attention. The beautifully preserved murals of the church depict scenes from Jesus Christ’s life.

Семинар: Въведение в интеркултурната комуникация и интеркултурния тренинг
Seminar: Introduction into Intercultural Communication and Training

Friday, 27 April 2007, 09:00 – 11:00

Plamen Makariev
Juliana Roth

The seminar aims at presenting to a Bulgarian audience the main points of departure for the dealing with cultural diversity in the global and multicultural world. It will have the format of an introductory workshop, since intercultural topics are very new in the Bulgarian academic and social discourse. On the other hand, there is a substantial – and growing – interest in this topic which should be supported.

Primary topics will be the historical background, the contemporary contexts and the basic concepts of intercultural communication and management. This will include an overview of the development of the intercultural field in different countries. The discussion should tackle the chances of future intercultural work in Bulgaria and encourage networking among interested individuals from academic and training contexts.

The seminar will be held in Bulgarian: it is free of charge.
